The Groom and The Ring

At Wedding in a Teacup HQ, we admit that we do have a soft spot for the groom... For a start, we recognise that without him, The Big Day wouldn’t be happening! And we pull out all the stops to help the Last-Minute Groom when he phones up in a panic, which does seem to happen quite often… We’re very flattered that grooms seem to like us, too. At trade fairs we’ve noticed that the grooms seem to get as excited about our products as the brides do – particularly our travel-inspired Par Avion section and our invitations. Maybe because they’re not too frilly, not too fussy – they suit him.

Various poll straws and studies have shown that grooms are as keen as their brides on having a wonderful, unforgettable day – but let’s face it, grooms do tend to get sidelined. It’s still the bride’s day. Her personal List is endless and all enveloping – dress, make-up, flowers, manicure, bridesmaids’ dresses, hair, jewellery… His List is – what? Suit, tie, shoes and ring! I think it’s important to place real value on that short list. One of my favourite wedding memories is going with my now husband to choose his ring. It was the first piece of jewellery he had ever worn, and it was exciting and very meaningful for him and I loved that.

So when I was asked to take a look at a new collection from local company Wedding Rings Direct I happily agreed. I loved the zirconium and titanium rings and I think grooms will too – strong alternative metals with very cool names (titanium was named after the Titans!). The rings are stylish, contemporary, understated and elegant: titanium is light-weight, non-toxic, and strong; zirconium is strong too, and more malleable than titanium, and therefore used for more varied designs.
