My amazing staff are furloughed, but rather than furlough myself I wanted to keep going and keep trying. The thought of losing what I've worked so hard to build has sparked a fire in my belly that I haven't truly felt since the early days.
And I'm so glad I did! Distracted by the uncertainty in the news, I hadn't anticipated the determination of people to stay in touch with their loved ones, and just how important this would become.
Orders started coming in for seed and tea packets to send to friends, work colleagues and family, with heart-felt messages like “Just a wee something to brighten up your lockdown days!”, a simple "I miss you" or a beautiful saying like “where flowers bloom, so does hope".
People are ordering single packets to send direct to loved ones' doors. Their very own letterbox love! A message of hope combined with the gift of something to do at home and watch grow along with this new chapter.
I’m now coming into the studio twice a week, still on my own. Oh I miss my team! But it’s also been so nice for me to start doing the nitty gritty of the business again - the making and the packing. Seeing the gorgeous messages on the necklaces and seeds I’m creating are such a highlight of my week. I love what I do.
All of our existing seed or necklace designs can be adapted for any occasion. Inspired by all of your beautiful messages, I have also created some new designs specifically to send to loved ones you can’t meet up with.
We have to be apart for now, but we’re in this together and we can still stay lovingly connected.
Thank you so much to all of our customers, new and existing, for keeping us going through this time - it means more than you could imagine! And thank you Royal Mail for making it possible to send a bit of Letterbox Love ♥
]]>Wow, what a few weeks it's been! Never have so many of us lived through so much change in such a short amount of time.
In the past two weeks here at Wedding in a Teacup we've gone from a super busy team of four enjoying our busiest time of year, to just me coming into our studio once a week to get our (very few) orders out.
]]>In the past two weeks here at Wedding in a Teacup we've gone from a super busy team of four enjoying our busiest time of year, to just me coming into our studio once a week to get our (very few) orders out. As long as Royal Mail are still running (thank you post people!) or circumstances don't change, I will carry on doing that. I am in our private studio on my own, and our post gets picked up, so there's no contact and I need to do what I can to help our little business survive. Do keep an eye out on our Instagram for any further updates though.
And our hearts of course go out to all those lovely couples who planned their perfect weddings with care and flair and were eagerly awaiting the day itself – only to have to postpone it. Such an anti-climax, such a cruel disappointment!
But we are urging you all to trust and hang on in there. It may feel like a disaster movie out there, but if this virus has done anything good, it’s made us slow down and reassess what really matters in life. It’s made us deeply value what we take for granted; be more contented with the simple things.
Hold that person you’re going to marry close and remind yourself of the love of your guests who will – one day soon, because this won’t last for ever! – be even more joyful to come together to celebrate your postponed wedding. Can you even imagine the party?!
This virus has hit just as the beauty and power of Spring is breaking out, and many are taking time to really see it this year, and finding this hugely consoling. Planting seeds is the essence of spring. If you’ve ordered our seed packets favours and are having to postpone your wedding, don’t worry.
We can re-print your personalised packets with your new date (or no date if you'd like to be on the safe side!), then all you have to do is fill them with the seeds from your original order (which are enclosed in hermetically sealed packets, and viable for at least three years) wet the gum trip, and seal. You can find the empty packets here. Do get in touch if you've any questions or if you think we can help at all. Sending love!
]]>Since we launched back in 2011, sustainability has been one of our core values. We’re constantly trying to be more eco-friendly - cutting down on plastic, re-using and focussing on our paper-based products handmade by us.
Our personalised seed packets were in our original offering, but fast-forward to 2020 and they are by far our biggest seller. And we can see why!
People are increasingly aware of how their shopping habits impact on the environment, and these little eco-friendly seed packets not only look divine (if we do say so ourselves) but carry an inspiring and meaningful message – and of course help to spread a bit of nature too.
In the midst of a climate and ecological emergency change needs to happen. We depend on nature for everything from the food we eat and the air we breathe to our happiness and emotional wellbeing.
As a Sussex-based business we have been a proud supporter of the Sussex Wildlife Trust for a while. With their community events and projects, they are tireless educators and champions of nature. Their nature reserves – such as their beautiful head office based at Woods Mill - are havens of biodiversity where wildlife thrives and kids and adults alike can get muddy and nourished.
We wanted to do more than just donate, however. H’mmm what about our seed packets… Could there bee (gettit?!) a more perfect pairing?
So here they are. We’re launching with two brand new wedding seed packet designs, one filled with lavender and one with wildflower seeds, both perfect for pollinators (but, if you’d prefer to use one of our existing designs instead just let us know).
For each Sussex Wildlife Trust seed packet bought 20p goes straight to them, and their logo stands proudly on the back.
You get a beautiful favour to brighten up your wedding tables, your guests get to take home seeds to sow in their gardens or plant-pots for the butterflies and bees, and you get to feel good that you’ve helped such a deserving cause. A truly meaningful favour, for one of your most meaningful days.
We’re passionate about the cause of nature and are over the moon about this partnership. We have a larger range in the making for other celebrations – children’s parties and memorial services - so watch this space …
]]>If you’re searching for something a bit different to give your clients to remind them of your event or service, that will not only make them smile but is also environmentally-friendly too - how about bespoke seed packets? Here’s why we’re fans… and we reckon your blooming lovely clients will be too!
Stand out for the crowd
While we love a post-event goody bag, let’s face it: we all know what will be inside: pens, leaflets, maybe a snack or two, a keyring, and even a little (plastic) box of mini mints. If you fancy shaking things up a little and standing out from the crowd, slide in a seed packet for an unexpected, unusual corporate gift. Adapt one of our existing designs, or use your own (or we can also create a bespoke design just for you) to add a fun surprise to your gifting!
Let the love grow
Whether used for corporate giveaways, promotional gifts, conferences, exhibitions or other events, personalised seed packets are a lovely way of spreading the love, long after the lucky recipient has been gifted them. Our seeds are enclosed in hermetically sealed packets making them last for at least three years, so there's no pressure on your recipients to get their gardening gloves on or any restraints as to what time of year you can give them away. This means that months, or even years later, as your seeds bloom into life, it’ll make the receiver smile and think about your business (and hopefully pop a photo on their ‘gram too). Win, win!
Gorgeous, green gifting with heart
If you’re looking for sustainable corporate gift ideas, seed packets are a great choice. Whether you choose from native wildflower seeds (to help keep our bees and butterflies busy and buzzing), happy sunflowers or spicy jalapeños, giving the gift of nature makes for unusual corporate gifts, that has more meaning than the stereotypical plastic pressies. Have another specific seed in mind? I'm sure we can source it! Just get in touch with your ideas.
Our seed packets are printed on our 100% recycled envelopes, making them an ideal green gift which keeps on giving. And, as they're flat, they're the perfect size for popping in the post too - so you don't need to worry about arranging pricey couriers or the receiver being at home to sign for it either. It'll be there waiting for them to excitedly open!
After requests from many small businesses asking for our personalised seed packets, to be made into memorable gifts for their clients, we’ve excitingly just launched our corporate seed packet service - so if you’re searching for an unusual or quirky corporate gift to remind people of your business, get in touch to discuss your requirements and get a quote.
]]>Keep it simple
Whether you’ve been planning your wedding for many years or just a few months, we guarantee other trends or ideas (hello pushy relatives!) have popped up and perhaps made you panic and think you should change your plans. Before you do though, check in with yourself. Is the new dress/ colour scheme/ supplier really what you want? Is it what you and your partner envisaged when you started planning? If it’s not, don’t let it influence your big day decisions: be true to you and you'll enjoy the process and the day so much more for it. Your wedding day should be as wonderfully unique as you and your beau!
Last year, we were absolutely delighted to have received a gorgeous email from one of our brides-to-be (who’d already purchased some of our seed packets to use as favours) saying: ‘Whenever I’ve gotten stressed out with wedding plans, I always come back to our Meant To Bee seed packets to ground me and remind me exactly what kind of wedding we want.’ It made us smile so much as we’re big advocates in people doing their day, their way (in fact, WIATC was created by our founder, Hester, after she tied the knot and was a little disillusioned with ‘regular’ wedding trends and decor).
Set aside time to get stuff done
Now the final countdown is well and truly on, things can get BUSY. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, break down what’s left to do (if you’re unsure, check out our handy wedding checklist) and get things scheduled in your diary. Committing to an hour or two of ‘wedmin’ each week rather than trying to do everything at the last minute will, hopefully, make you feel more in control. And, don’t forget to share out the duties too - with your partner and family and friends!
Get by with a little help from your friends
Speaking of involving loved ones: getting them involved can save you a whole lot of stress and make the planning process part of the celebrations too. Whether mum’s on flower duty and putting together home-grown blooms for your bouquet, your best mate’s organising the hen do or nan’s baking the cake; giving the people you love the chance to be a part of your big day will create lasting memories not just from the actual Big Day, while reducing your worry-load. Win-win!
One of the loveliest ideas we’ve heard of are crafty hen parties, where everyone works together to make decorations and add personal touches to the wedding - be it adding personalised stickers to honey, jam, chutney or sweetie jars or candles to use as favours, or helping to make your very own wedding day bunting. Ahhh!
Re-use
There’s often so much to think about or buy for big days which can easily lead to over-buying or spending more money and time on things than necessary. Take favours for example - these don’t have to only be little packages/gifts which people pick up at the end of the night, they can work so much harder and be more meaningful too. Whether you opt for personalised name badges (which also break the ice!), mirrors, seed packets or more, they can also act as place holders to guide people to their seats. They can also be enjoyed throughout the whole reception, rather than potentially forgotten about as people head for their carriages at the end of a fizz-fuelled day...
Enjoy the process!
Finally, remember to enjoy these last few weeks and months being engaged as much as you can. Time will fly by and before you know it, you’ll be married (yay!) and reminiscing about the build up and laughing about the fun you had getting everyone together to make, create and share.
]]>Traditionally these going home presents are often filled with lots of single-use plastics, inevitably ending up as landfill soon enough. If you're trying to limit the waste from your child's party we've put together some ideas to create party-perfect bags that both kids and the environment will love… hooray!
Plastic-free party bags
A simple switch is to think about the bag itself. Instead of plastic goody bags, opt for paper or even cute recycled cloth bags that can be used again. Paper bags can be easily customised with names and colourful drawings by the Birthday boy or girl themselves beforehand – or we can do it for you with one of our personalised paper bags!
Tasty treats
Instead of plastic packaged sweets, have some pre-party fun by creating biscuits, cakes or choccies at home. Then wrap in already-read magazines or brown paper for an Insta-worthy plastic-free parcel. To make them extra-special, add a brown luggage tag, stamped with the lucky recipient’s name or 'baked with love’. Ahhh!
After-party activities
Forget one-time uses, pop a little something in your party bags that keeps giving! We love mementos such as seed packets – kids can plant their seeds and watch them grow, long after the joy of winning musical chairs has ended. Plus there's a lesson in nature in there too - always a winner!
Creative goodies
Whether it’s crayons and a colouring book, wooden toys or a baking kit (just use small glass jars for ingredients, such as flour and sugar), little ones will love getting crafty and showing off their makes. And hopefully, these are more fun and less noisy than a plastic party blower! Other parents can thank you later...
Beautiful books
If you want to keep it simple, you can't go wrong with a book that will be read again and again. Often these can be picked up in sets for a really reasonable price, or search your local charity shops for good quality second hand ones.
What will you put in your kids' party bags? We’d love to know! Tell us by emailing: hello@weddinginateacup.co.uk or commenting on Facebook or Instagram
]]>Not only is being outside in the fresh air, away from screens, good for little ones’ mental health, but it can help them build confidence, get creative and exercise too! With winter and the snuggly indoor season fast approaching, we wanted to share our top things to do (we’re all mamas here at WIATC HQ) to get everyone outside - whether that’s on your way home from school, during holidays or at weekends. Grab your coats and wellies!
Get exploring the garden
Whether you’ve got a grass-filled garden or a petite patio, kids will love getting outside looking for bugs and getting their hands dirty in soil. Give them a science lesson they’ll never forget by planting your own herbs or flowers - just imagine their faces as they grow and burst into life!
We love sowing seeds with our little ones, as it teaches them about how things flourish and gives them a little responsibility (building confidence in the process). We know so many other parents enjoy this too, so much so, we’ve created kids’ party seed packet favours, perfect for popping into party bags for plenty of fun, long after the party has ended.
Organise an outdoor play date
They’ll quickly forget about the telly and their computer games when they’re playing outside with a pal. From sports day-inspired games (go retro with sack racing, an egg and spoon race and bean bag hoopla) to frizbee fun, get together with other mum (and dad) friends to ban those cries of ‘I’m bored’ and get ‘em moving!
Plan a new adventure
When we’re so busy, we can easily get stuck in a rut. Shake up the same-old by heading to a new park or further afield for a weekend walk in a woodland. Even just walking a different way home after school (and finding a new park or cats to pet) can have a positive impact on their (and your) outlook.
Uncover treasure on a hunt
Hide plastic toys or chocolate coins in the garden, giving your children clues to hunt them down - guaranteed it’ll take them longer than expected!
Walk (or borrow) a dog
Having a dog is a great excuse for getting the whole family on a walk. Instead of the usual walk around the block, get the kids involved and excited about planning a longer weekend walk - along the beach, in the countryside or in a woodland. They’ll enjoy devising something special for their fave four-legged friend! If you don’t have a dog at your disposal, ask a friend if you can borrow theirs or check out sites like Borrow My Doggy, which allows you to build a rapport with neighbours’ pups.
Pack a picnic
Who doesn’t love a picnic? They don’t just have to be for summer months though - during the rest of the year, dress up warm, fill flasks with warm soup and cordial, pack home-baked treats and head outside for lunch with a difference.
Jump in puddles
Let’s face it: most of the time we’re begging our kids to NOT jump in puddles, but on the next rainy day, don those waterproofs and let them splash around! Getting messy helps children get creative and feel stimulated… and jumping in puddles is quite a lot of fun too!
We hope you enjoy these ideas! If you tick any off, don’t forget to show us on Instagram or Facebook. We’d love to see you enjoying the great outdoors!
]]>Here’s 5 easy ways to create a flourishing patch at home that insects will love, no matter how big or small your space.
You don’t have to be a green-fingered goddess (yet) either: insects love variation, as dependent on their size, they can find snacking on some a bit tricky, so don’t feel pressured: just enjoy planting whatever you fancy. Even though wild flowers, they should not be scattered in the wild - keep these beauties at home!
Some of the best flowers to get bees busily buzzing are the poppy, evergreen clematis, foxglove and wildflowers. We love this gorgeous illustration (by Hannah Rosegren) showing 21 annuals, perennials and herbs to plant.
Wildflowers, forget-me-nots, sweet peas and sunflowers are just some flowers that are easy to grow from seed at home. This method is suggested by Friends of the Earth, as not only is growing fun, but also helps to increase biodiversity too (which in turn, helps pollination).
If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you’ll know that we’ve been trying to do our bit to help the environment too, and alongside going as plastic-free as possible: we’ve also launched some brand new seed packets too. These pretty packets - which can be personalised and used as wedding, baby shower and party favours - are filled with seeds to get guests growing and spreading the love.
Did you know that not all bees live in hives? Some bees are solitary and like to set up cosy nest homes, by themselves, in soil and tubes. By making your very own home for bees, you can give them space to nest and have their bee babies, ahh!
You’ll need a few planks of sustainable wood (to create a few compartments), as well as multiple sized hollow tubes to make it welcoming for many species of bees. If you’d like to follow a template, the RSPCA have a great DIY guide.
With many of us tidying up outdoor spaces, ready for the winter, we can, unintentionally, make them sparse for insects and wildlife. If you can, leave grass growing so pollinators have shelter and a space to feed. Talk about win-win!

In our latest of our flower focus series (see more about our fave fleurs here!), we’re looking at lovely lavender to help you decide whether to have it at your big day...
Where does lavender come from?
Lavender (known also as lavandula) first dates back to the Roman times, and now has over 47 species growing everywhere from Cape Verde to the Canary Islands, Africa to Europe, the Mediterranean, southeast Asia to southwest India. As it has a calming scent, it’s well-known for use in alternative therapies and essential oils.
The meaning for the name lavender is thought to derive from the old French word: lavandre, which comes from the Latin name: lavare – to wash, which is no surprise, giving lavender’s clean scent.
How do you grow lavender?
Lavender seeds can be planted from February to July, and can take up to three months to grow – so be patient. First things first, the seeds need to germinate. You can do this by planting the seeds in a seed tray and covering with well draining soil. This needs to be kept moist and warm as the seeds sprout.
Within two weeks you should start to see bouts of leaves grow. It’s then time to plant them outside in your chosen spot. Don’t be disheartened if you don’t see much growth though, as lavender grows slowly in the first year and then bursts into life during its second year.
Is lavender good for bees?
Yes! These pretty purple blooms are rich in nectar, so lavender is a favourite flower for bees. And as bumble bees feast on the nectar, or honey bees collect it to take back to the hive, pollen rubs off on their furry bodies which they take to other flowers, encouraging cross fertilisation. So as well as feeding the bees you’re helping grow new flowers! Honey made from bees who are partial to some tasty lavender also has a lavender-esque flavour. Yum!
Lavender as wedding flowers
With a musky, tranquil scent and relaxed, understated look, as well as old beliefs that it is lucky, lavender is understandably a fabulous flower for weddings. Whether in a hand-tied bouquet (which’ll smell wonderful as you strut down the aisle!), in simple but effective table arrangements or in gorgeous flower crowns and jam jar displays, lavender never fails to delight and is oh-so Instagrammable!
Loving lavender? You're not the only one – due to demand, we're SO EXCITED to announce that very soon, we'll be stocking our very own lavender seed favour range! Keep your eyes peeled to our Instagram and Facebook to hear more!

]]>In light of this we're starting a new questionnaire series spotlighting (and picking the brains of!) some independent wedding suppliers that we admire. First up is Lib from Bettie Rose Flowers, a creative florist based in Brighton who works throughout the South East. We adore her bright and beautiful creations and love that she shares our passion for the environment too. Over to you, Lib!
I set up Bettie Rose because ...
I had worked in florist shops for a long time and found that in a shop environment I couldn’t give wedding flowers the time and attention they needed (and that I wanted to give!). Working on weddings was always the work I really enjoyed so now I do it full time!
Bettie Rose is unique because ...
Because it’s me! I bring my uniqueness to my business. I run everything to do with the business from starting ideas to the finishing touches on your bouquet (plus all the stuff in the background too!). You receive a personal service and I walk you through the whole journey, because that’s how I’d want it to be if I were the one getting married.
My favourite thing about working in the wedding industry is ...
I love working towards such a happy day, weddings have a real magic about them and to be able to interpret people’s ideas into exactly what they wanted and more is really rewarding.
My most memorable wedding day moment is ...
Probably the beast of a bouquet I made for my good friend Katie! She let me completely go wild with beautiful tropical flowers and vibrant colours and it was such a joy to make.
The advice I’d give to couples planning their wedding day is ...
Trust. Research your suppliers and when you’ve found the ones you like, trust them to do what they do best. You really will get the best work out of them that way :)
Things to remember when looking for your wedding florist are …
Really look into the style of work they do and whether that’s what you love or not. Spend time really reading their website and how it is they work, what their experience level is and also if they seem like they will be a good fit for you personality wise and also ethics wise.
For example if you are really passionate about the environment then choose someone who talks openly about this and is taking steps in their business to change things. These days it’s easy to find out about us as everyone is all over social media - you can check our websites, instagram, facebook and pinterest to get all the latest info!

Where do sweet peas come from?
Sweet peas (more formally known as lathyrus odoratus) are believed to have been introduced to the UK by an Italian monk named Franciscus Cupani in 1699 who was writing ‘Flora of Sicily’ and had sent some seeds to a friend in Essex. Over the next 170 years, a few sweet pea varieties grew within Britain. Then in 1888, a 65 year old gardener called Henry Eckford set up his own company in Shropshire and dedicated the rest of his life to the flower – increasing the size and expanding the range of colours available and becoming the flowers we all know and love.
How to grow sweet peas
These gorgeous blooms are easy to grow. Sow seeds (two to one pot) between October to March, as growing them over the winter, helps them to be more hardy and robust. Grab a root trainer (or an empty loo roll tube will do!), and add multi-purpose compost. Then dampen the compost and push the seeds in to about an inch above the surface. Cover the pots with newspaper or polystyrene to keep them moist and warm, with the light out.
Once seedlings appear, keep them cool (around 5 degrees centigrade) in a shed. Once the roots have filled your root trainer (or loo roll), it’s time to plant them in a bigger pot/ in borders, just remember to use a support for them to grow up and only plant two seeds in each pot. As your sweet peas grow tie them to the frame, and then watch them bloom into life! You’ll need to water your sweet peas to keep the soil moist, throughout the season.
Do bees like sweet peas?
If you’ve been following us on Instagram (and reading our blogs), you’ll know that we’re all about being eco-friendly and doing our bit for the bees – and thankfully, one easy way to entice bees to our gardens is with flowers like sweet peas! While the flowers on the sweet pea aren’t as large as other blooms, the floral fragrance will attract the bees and they’ll happily buzz into them to feast. They’ll then get covered in the sweet peas’ pollen, which will help the flower to produce more, giving it, and the environment, a longer life. As Sir David Attenborough said: “...if the invertebrates were to disappear, the world’s ecosystem would collapse.”
Sweet peas as wedding flowers
With sentimental meanings such as ‘thank you’ and ‘blissful pleasure’, sweet peas make thoughtful wedding flowers. Whether you carry sweet peas in your hand-tied bouquet (for a whimsy feel), add country cottage vibes with a statement sweet pea archway or place in jam jar vases, they’ll be a lovely, fragrant addition to your big day. With such sweet meanings, they make wonderful favours too. Just think, your guests can enjoy them growing, as your married life blossoms too!

Today it’s hard to not be aware of the war on plastic, but can you still have the wedding of your dreams guilt free? We think so! Here are some ideas around how to make your wedding day a little more sustainable; every little helps, and the great thing is that environmentally friendly quite often means purse friendly too. Win, win!
Your venue and suppliers
One of your biggest outlays is going to be your venue, and the same goes for environmental impact too. This doesn’t mean having to get hitched in a field if that’s not your thing - just go armed with the questions that are important to you; how they recycle, what they do with leftover food, do they use plastic cups or straws. They should also have a list of local suppliers – less travel means a smaller carbon footprint! Check with these suppliers where their items are actually made, too. Plenty of UK companies stock items that have been made far from here.
Guest numbers
Need an excuse to not invite that grumpy great aunt you’ve not seen for 10 years? Well here it is: the number one way you can limit the impact of your wedding day is keeping it intimate! Fewer guests means less waste and less travel.
Décor
First up – stick to the essentials. What can you not see your day without, and what can you ditch? Once you’ve got your list of essentials, now to brainstorm how to create your look.
Recycling is great, but re-using is even better… Always dreamt of a candlelit dinner? Ask your venue if they have candles you can borrow. If not there will probably be a local décor hire company who will drop off, set up and pick up. If you can’t find what you’re after for hire locally, how about collecting them second-hand from car-boot sales and then doubling them up as your favours too – each guest could take home a candle holder for example!
The general rule for décor is go for re-usable or recyclable materials whenever possible: instead of single use place-name holders simply write your guests names on a card tag. Have cloth napkins instead of paper ones. Use rose petals scattered on your tables rather than plastic confetti. And of course paper straws with your cocktails!
Favours
Favours are not an essential wedding item. No-one will mind if you ditch them. But if you love the idea of a thank you gift for your guests, you can opt for something that is going to actively help the environment at the same time. Flower seed favours are perfect – even your most cynical guests won’t be able to resist planting them and you’ll be happy knowing your day has contributed to happy bees. Food favours are also a great idea – no-one can resist your mum’s homemade fudge, and none will end up in the bin! Wrap them in pretty paper bags or boxes to avoid plastic waste.
Doubling up on as many items as you can is a great idea to limit waste in this area too; favours/place names, favours bags/menus, table plans/favours, get creative!
Outfits
Instead of opting for clothing that your wedding party may not even like, let alone wear again - why not let them choose their own outfits? If you have a colour theme you could buy the best man and ushers a tie that they can wear with their own suits, or give your bridesmaids a colour pallet that they have to stick to when choosing their own outfits. If you have your heart set on matching outfits check out hire firms or second-hand places such as Oxfam online or Preloved.

Where do sunflowers come from?
Sunflowers (or helianthus to give them their scientific name), are native to North America, however, now happily grow across most of the world - including the UK - during the summer months. It’s scientific name comes from the Greek word ‘helios' meaning sun and ‘anthos’ meaning flower, as it loves blooming under warm, sunny skies. Ahhh!
How to grow sunflowers
The best time to plant sunflowers is as the weather warms up our blustery shores - usually mid-April to May. As they love the sun, it’s no surprise that they thrive best in sunny spots (ideally with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight each day), and also near to a wall or fence to give them stability as they shoot up.
When planting, be sure to give your sunflowers plenty of room to grow (their roots love to spread out!) and use well-draining soil. Push the seeds in to a depth of 1.5cm, about 30cm apart. Seedlings should appear within 10 days. Once the back of the sunflower’s head has turned brown, it means harvest time has arrived - for you or the birds!
How are sunflowers good for the environment?
These bold, oversized flowers easily grab the attention of bees (and other pollinators) who busily buzz into their centre, which is filled with hundreds of small flowers, and their nectar and pollen.
As they feast upon the flower, bees and other insects are covered in pollen. This pollination is fantastic for the sunflower (and in turn, the environment), by helping the flower to produce more seeds - and giving it a longer life.
Sunflowers at weddings
As these happy flowers are said to represent admiration, loyalty and longevity, they make a meaningful wedding flower. Add to this that in Chinese tradition they mean good luck and lasting happiness, and they’re the perfect addition to any wedding!
Display them in jam jars, teapots and urns or even on the back of the ceremony chairs, to add a simple yet stylishly rustic look to any style of big day.
Another thoughtful way to add sunflowers to your wedding day is by giving them as favours - this way these lovely sunshiney blooms can spread joy, long after the fun and frolics of your beautiful day.
If you’re looking for sunflower seed favours for your wedding, take a peek at our personalised seed packet favours here. ]]>With most pre-push parties taking place four to six weeks before baby arrives, we’ve put together plenty of decor inspiration to create a shower fit for the queen that you are (or a duchess - we hope if you’re reading this Meghan, you’ll be fitting in a British ‘do before your due date!).

Terrific tassels
More of an understated elegance kinda girl? Why not opt for on-trend tassels in a neutral colour? Mixing together white, oatmeal, light tan and grey coloured tassels, our garland (£15.00) is a gorgeous addition to add a little frivolous fun, without being OTT. You could re-use it in baby’s room when they arrive for an added personal touch!

]]>But this year, forget the cuddly teddy, fake rose and smellies and treat them to something that shows them how much they mean to you. After all, to paraphrase iconic band Madness: love is the best!
If you need any inspo, don’t worry, we’ve got you sorted (just call us Cupid’s little helpers) with plenty of gorgeous, meaningful Valentine’s gifts. Here are just a few that have been flying out of the Wedding in a Teacup studio so far…
I heart you
Wearing your heart on your sleeve is well, impractical and pretty impossible. Instead, let them show the world how much they’re loved and how thankful you are to have them in your life, by holding your love, quite literally, close to their heart with our pretty heart-shaped necklace. Thank them for being in your life (or putting up with your singing/ cooking/ lateness - delete as appropriate), by adding a bespoke message to their keepsake card.
Show your love
Whether you’re asking them an important question (perhaps you want to go ‘Facebook Official’, or them to move in, or the BIG one: ‘will you marry me?”), what better backdrop than giant balloons spelling out your love? They’ll know as soon as they see them exactly how you feel, just like in your fave Valentine’s rom-com… swoon!
What is love?
Searching for a gift that’ll make the recipient smile over and over again? This lovely poem describing the highs (and sometimes lows) of love will be a constant reminder of your romance. Whether it's tender supporting, or raucous cavorting, everyone will recognise the experiences described! We’ve seen this used as part of a proposal and then propped up next to the loved up couple’s wedding cake on their big day. All together now: ahhh!
Say it with light
What kind of Valentine’s day would it be without candles? Add a romantic ambience to your date (or proposal, these would be so dreamy, wouldn’t they?!) with your own personalised paper lanterns. Simply tell us what you want to say and we’ll help you to say it with light!
Just my cup of tea
Make their morning cuppa even sweeter on Valentine’s Day (and then every day after that!) with a sentimental addition, like this silver-plated teaspoon, on their saucer. Hand-stamped with ‘'I l♥ve you', the cute teaspoon will act as a memento of your love, even during the most mundane of days.
Speaking of love... we've been shortlisted for 'Best Wedding Day Finishing Touches' in The UK Wedding Awards 2019, by a team of prestigious judges and we'd love it if you voted for us!
If something we’ve created for you has made an appearance on your big day, or you think our customer service is tip-top (we really do try!), we’d be ever so grateful if you’d take the time to vote for us (and your other faves). You can do this here.
Psst, planning on popping the question? Don’t forget to check out our recent proposal-perfect must-haves blog for even more inspiration!

From barns to village halls, at-home garden parties to lodge-style hotels, a rustic theme adds romance to all kinds of venues - especially those that are otherwise simple and relaxed. If you’re planning a rustic ‘do, be inspired by our handy how-to guide, and get ready to create your day, your way!
Say it with signs
Make it clear your wedding is not a formal affair right from the get-go, with laid-back signs pointing everyone (oh-so-subtly) in the right direction to all the fun! Whether you choose cream signage to blend in (like our wooden hanging sign), or go bold and old-school with chalkboard additions (this ‘pick a seat’ sign is continually one of our bestsellers!), cute notices add a rustic-look to any venue.
DIY favours
Nothing gives a homely vibe to a big day more than handmade touches. One easy way to do this is by creating your own favours - like jams or chutneys! These can be created in batches, a few months before the wedding and then made extra-special with personalised labels. We reckon that the lucky recipients will smile, remembering your day, as they spread your homemade tastiness on their toast!
Simple touches
A rustic wedding is all about simple - yet beautiful - decorations, incorporating natural materials such as twine, wood and brown card, so it’s no surprise that many couples choose to use our luggage tag guest book, complete with mini wooden pegs, during their big day! It can always be used as a seating plan as guests arrive and then the all-important guest book later. And as it’s a stylish homage to your ‘do, it can even be on-show at home, well into married life.
Homely hessian
Rustic wedding decor and hessian are a match made in heaven, aren’t they?! Opt for table runners, napkins, seat covers and bunting - like ours (great for displaying where you’d like guests to leave their cards, gifts and er, cash… in a non-cheeky way!) in this farmers’ favourite material, for an effortlessly rustic look.
Wild florals
Country rustic weddings conjure up images of endless flowers - be that in the meadow next to your gorgeous venue, or displayed in jam jars on tables, window sills or around beams. To continue the bloomin’ lovely theme and make sure your guests remember your big day, give them dainty forget-me-not favours as a memento and let the love grow!
If you’d like even more country rustic wedding inspo, take a peek at our super-swoon-worthy Pinterest board.
]]>Decide on a date
One of the best ways to ease into wedding planning is by deciding on a date, as this helps to formulate a plan and can make other choices just fall into place. For example, if you’re swooning over a summer wedding, this will help you to choose your venue (perhaps you want a relaxed garden party or a barn with BBQ), your colours, seasonal flowers, food options and so much more. By getting a rough date in the diary, the planning process really begins!
Set a budget
Of course, setting a budget is high on the list when starting to sort out the details for your big day. And for good reason too - while magazines, family and friends will all tell you different amounts that the ‘average’ wedding costs - the cost of your day is all down to you and what you want! Whether that’s a large, lavish affair with hundreds of guests or a chilled, intimate ‘do with just a few of your nearest and dearest there, you’ll know exactly what’s possible (and in what time frame) by sitting down and getting that wedding budget sorted.
Find your dream theme
What would you like your big day to be like? Are you longing for a rustic barn wedding or sophisticated silver and gold celebrations? Or maybe you’re a lover of bright and bold colours or fancy a ship-shape nautical wedding? Thinking about this when you start to plan can be a useful starting point for helping to pin down your venue, dress, decor and all of those personal little details. We love Pinterest for finding themes - take a peek at our boards for further inspo!
Ask friends for recommendations
Whether you fell in love with a friend’s wedding cake design, felt giddy looking at a pal’s wedding photos or fantasise about tucking into your bestie’s big day feast again, ask your friends who have been-there-and-got-the-wedding-dress to recommend suppliers from their dream team. As they say, it’s not what you know: it’s who! It’ll save lots of time searching and you can feel confident that you’re creating a super-special trusted squad of your very own.
It’s your day - have it your way!
When you get engaged, it can feel like everyone has an opinion on what your wedding day should look like or how it should be. Stick to what YOU want. Don’t forget it’s YOUR day - be sure to plan it your way, from the start!
Good luck with your planning! Remember, we’re here to help you create your wow-worthy wedding with stationery, decor, favours and gift ideas!
]]>If you’re planning your very own romantic proposal during the most wonderful time of the year, be inspired by our best-selling proposal must-haves, that’ll make asking that all-important question even more special for you and your husband/wife to be! Good luck!
Spell it out

Recreate your unique love story with our luggage tag frame; complete with kraft tags to write your memories on and pegs to hold your treasured photographs of your story so far, in place. Perhaps the final tag could ask the big question! As well as the ring, be sure to have some tissues on-hand too, to help wipe away those happy tears - this could get emotional!
Seeking eager partner to establish winning team
Looking for a quirky, alternative way to pop the question? This playful poem, which comes in the form of a job advert for the perfect life partner - with skills, salary, hours, and bonus all described, could be the ideal find! We bet they’ll giggle and there’ll be plenty of happy tears as they say ‘I do’!
Sugar-sweet proposal
Whether you pop this ‘I love you’ teaspoon next to your tea-lovers’ cup, serve it up for the sweetest proposal for your dessert-obsessive, or make it a focal point during the ultimate romantic breakfast in bed, they’ll know exactly what they mean to you, without you needing to say anything. Just present them with the ring box and watch them squeal with delight!
Love’s in the air
Whatever your plans our big, bold LOVE balloons will add a statement to any proposal - be that a low-key Christmas morning celebration or an all-eyes-on-us New Year’s eve engagement. Just inflate, grab that ring and get preparing that speech for a proposal they’ll never forget!

What you'll need:
How to make them:
Voila! These make lovely extra little presents for family. I packaged some up with some chocolate for my son's pre-school staff using our personalised stickers to seal. Don't worry, I gave them wine too.. Happy baking!
Now seven years (yikes!), thousands of sales and two babies later, I'm absolutely blown away by your continued support. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for choosing to buy from WIATC. Not only have I been able to create and source products that have played a part in your special days (and loved every minute of it!) but, thanks to you, we've steadily grown too. We’re now a team of five (all working part time around the school runs, assemblies and sports days) making and finding dreamy products, behind the scenes.
Like that lovely (but rather long!) quote says: "When you buy from a small business, you're not helping a CEO buy a holiday home. You're helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his beloved football kit and a mum put food on the table." Here at WIATC, this couldn't be more true!
Needless to say, it's no mean feat us surviving in this climate - with the sheer growth of online retailers and choice now available, I am beyond grateful to every single person who's ever bought from us. It really does mean the world.
In celebration of our Birthday I'd love to offer you a little discount on your order this month. Just use code: BIRTHDAY15 by 31st December to get 15% off!
So whether you want to get your stocking fillers sorted, wedding stationery and decor ordered or are thinking ahead to that 2019 baby shower or hen party; snap up your gifts, favours and decorations for less!
As if our birthday wasn’t enough, we’ve got even more reasons to p-a-r-t-y (or have a few glasses of Prosecco on a Saturday afternoon - we are mums after all!), as we’ve been entered for The British Wedding Awards 2019 too, which thanks to your votes we've been won awards in for the last two years!
If you’d like to vote for us for the 'finishing touches' award (and your other fave wedding suppliers), it'd be the icing on the cake to our celebrations! Vote and see who else made the list here.
Thank you for choosing to shop with my small biz, you are fabulous!
Love, Hester x

Perfect presents
Let’s face it, it’s not just about the gift but how lovely it looks too! Ramp up the excitement by wrapping your pressie with perfection! This doesn’t need to be too complicated (or anything like Rowan Atkinson’s character, Rufus the jewellery salesman in Love Actually’s wrapping - no cinnamon stick or a bag within a bag needed!) - just add a pretty festive ribbon and cue plenty of gorgeous gift gushing… ah!
The magic of money
Make giving a gift of money or a voucher extra-special with a personalised envelope, made especially for them. These envelopes are a lovely touch to keep the Christmas spirit going whilst giving the receiver the gift of choice.

But, if our nans taught us anything (apart from the bottom drawer info), it’s that you should never turn up to a party empty-handed, so if you’re anything like us, you’d still like to get the couple who has everything (and have asked for money as a gift), something as a little keepsake.
Need some gift inspiration? Take a peek at our fave thoughtful gifts that are a lovely, little addition to your generous cash gift:
